GREENVILLE, N.C. - For the second-straight week, the East Carolina women's soccer team is ranked among the top 10 programs in the Central Region according to the National Coaches Association of America (NCSAA), sharing the ninth spot in the polls with Colorado College and Rice.
In six games in Conference USA play, the Pirates (8-5-1, 4-1-1) have recorded five shutouts and currently sits in a tie for second place with Rice in the league standings and are two points behind leader Memphis. ECU is coming off a 1-0-1 week after defeating Houston, 3-0, on the road and drawing even with the Owls in a double-overtime scoreless tie.
Baylor of the Big-12 moved up to No. 1 in the Central Regional poll following UCF's loss SMU on Sunday dropping the Knights to No. 3. West Virginia comes in at No. 2, followed Kansas (No. 4), Texas Tech (No. 5), Memphis (No. 6), Oklahoma State (No. 7) and Stephen F. Austin (No.8).
The Pirates will be back on the pitch Friday, Oct. 7 when they play host to SMU at the ECU Soccer Stadium at 7 p.m. (ET).
