GREENVILLE, N.C. – After a seven-day Hiatus between games, the East Carolina women’s soccer team will look to rebound at home when it hosts Marshall at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 13, at the ECU Soccer Stadium.
Last year, ECU and Marshall faced off on Senior Night at the ECU Soccer Stadium, which marked the final regular season game of the season. The Pirates captured a 1-0 overtime victory on a golden goal by Chrissty Gatz just four minutes into the period.
In last Sunday’s 3-2 setback at UAB, the Pirates received a three-point performance from junior Kelly Miller, who scored the game’s first goal in the 23rd minute, before assisting on junior striker Stephanie Seagrave’s team-leading third goal of the season in the second half.
A SEASON OF FIRSTS
Six East Carolina players, juniors Skylar Poole and Kelly Miller and freshmen Caitlin Hite, Lana Spitler, Jenna Geist and Kelsey Reeves, have scored their first-career goals during the 2013 season.
SECOND HALF LIGHTNING
While he first half has produced a combined seven goals between ECU and its opponents, the Pirates have scored 11 of their 15 goals in the second half of their contests.
Freshman defender Caitlin Hite has played every minute in 11 of the Pirates’ 13 matches during her first campaign. Included in that total are four double-overtime games.
FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH
The Pirates have one of the younger starting lineups in the conference, as multiple freshmen have routinely been in the starting lineup. ECU started a season-high five newcomers Sept. 6 against UNC Wilmington.
ONE TO WATCH
Redshirt junior striker Lexi Miller was named to the Preseason All-Conference USA Players to Watch List prior to the start of the season. Miller recorded five shots (three on goal) against UAB last Sunday.
WORKING DOUBLE OVERTIME
East Carolina has played in four double-overtime games this season and owns a 1-1-2 record in those contests. In double-overtime affairs, the Pirates are 1-0-1 at home.
