Soccer Looks To Snap Skid At UTEP
Oct. 18, 2009 GREENVILLE, N.C. - After suffering a 1-0 loss at Colorado College Friday, the East Carolina soccer team looks to get back on the winning track today at UTEP. The Pirates (8-5-2, 3-4-0 C-USA) and Miners (11-4-0, 5-2-0 C-USA) are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. ECU has never lost to UTEP, going 2-0-1. The Pirates won 2-0 in Greenville in 2006, tied 1-1 in El Paso in 2007 and took last season’s contest in Greenville, 2-1. In 2008, Kimmy Cummings scored her first career goal at 33:27 before UTEP’s Brandi Aston tied the game at the 38:19 mark. Jessica Swanson tallied the game-winning goal at 64:49 off a corner kick. Nicole Moore had the assist on the deciding goal. Next weekend, East Carolina returns home for this season’s final games at Bunting Field. Malkiewicz Picks Up Five ... Last Sunday against SMU, sophomore Amanda Malkiewicz scored her fifth goal of the season at the 83:30 mark. The five goals are one more than she recorded as a freshman last season. Malkiewicz also has four assists this year, giving her 14 total points, equaling last season’s mark.
