McCallion's Overtime Goal Nets Win For Pirates, 3-2

LOUISVILLE, KY -- For the second weekend in a row, the East Carolina women's soccer team completed a weekend sweep in Conference USA action as the Pirates dropped Louisville 3-2 in double-overtime on a Meghan McCallion's eighth goal of the season. With the win, the Pirates (7-8-2, 5-3-1) extend its current winning streak to four games in C-USA play and ties a school record for consecutive C-USA wins, which was set during the 2002 season. The teams were scoreless through the first half, when sophomore Tara Shaw scored her second goal of the season in the 55th minute to take a 1-0 lead. In the 75th minute a ball sent in by the Cards(11-4-2, 5-2-2) was deflected to Podvin, and she ripped it to the top right corner of the net, beating Pirate goalkeeper Lauren Church to make it 1-1. Just over three minutes later, Megan Rasmussen served a ball across the field into the six-yard box where Podvin one-timed it into the back of the net for a 2-1 Cardinal lead. At 84:59 Louisville was whistled for a handball in the box, and ECU's Krystel Pabey converted the ensuing penalty kick to tie the game at two. It was her third goal of the season. After a scoreless first overtime, it was McCallion that beat Meredith Miller from 30 yards out for the game winner. With the goal, McCallion has moved into second place on ECU's all-time goals score list with 28. She is five goals shy of tying former Pirate standout Amanda Duffy, who has 33 career goals. Church was injured in a collision with U of L sophomore Jamie Craft and was forced out of the match in the 86th minute. Church was credited with seven saves before departing. Her replacement Lindsi Troxler made two saves in just over 18 minutes of play, including a point blank stop of Podvin in the second overtime. Despite being out shot 21-10 on the afternoon, the Pirates picked up a much need win to stay alive in the race for a Conference USA Tournament berth. Heading into today's match, ECU was tied for fifth with nine points. The top eight teams in the conference standings will advance to the tournament, which will be in St. Louis, Mo. from Nov. 3-7. The Pirates will close out the regular season at home on Friday, Oct. 29 when they host USF on Senior Day. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m. ECU 3, LOUISVILLE 2 Shots: ECU 10, LOU 21
