March 2, 2013 Final Stats | Arizona State PDF Box Score
The Sun Devils scored three in the opening inning. Alix Johnson led off the game with a home run. Cheyenne Coyle followed with a double. Amber Freeman drew a walk and both were driven in on Niki Girard’s double. Mary Spiel drove in the final run of the first with her infield base hit. The Pirates attempted to counter in the first with Oshiro and Fieldhouse reaching on back-to-back singles. The next two ECU batters were retired though on an infield fly out and a strikeout to squander that chance. Coyle’s second extra base hit of the game, a home run after a Johnson lead-off base hit, in the second inning added two more to the lead for ASU. ASU added a single tally in the third inning as a Johnson single plated Spiel, who had started the rally by being hit by a Christian pitch. In the fourth, junior Jordan Lewis walked with one out, but was quickly erased as senior Kai Clark lined into a double play to end the frame. Johnson continued to torment the Pirate pitchers with her second home run and fourth hit of the game in the fifth inning with both Spiel and Wigness on base. Spiel started the frame by being hit by a pitch and Wigness followed with a bunt single. The home run drove in three of the six runs in the inning for ASU to make the final margin 13-0. The Pirates complete play in the Wilson/DeMarini Invitational and play against North Dakota on Sunday, March 3, at 11 a.m. (ET). |
