Friday, February 24

2:00 pm - North Florida vs. East Carolina
4:30 pm - College of Charleston vs. East Carolina

GREENVILLE, N.C. ---The East Carolina softball team will travel to Charleston, S.C. this weekend to participate in the annual CofC Cougar Classic hosted by College of Charleston February 24-26. The Pirates will play five games over the weekend including a non-conference game against Conference USA newcomer Marshall in its opening game of the weekend.

It'll be the first of four meetings between the Pirates and Thundering Herd this season. Marshall will visit ECU on April 1-2 for a three-game Conference USA series.

The Pirates will conclude their weekend action against host College of Charleston at 4:30 on Sunday. The two teams split a pair of games a year ago.

ECU won the 2004 Cougar Invitational, posting a 6-1 record defeating the host Cougars twice before downing UAB in the championship game.

Along with Marshall and CofC, East Carolina will face Akron, Dayton and North Florida over the weekend.

The Pirates opened the season with an 8-0 mark before falling to Michigan State in the championship game of the Holiday Inn Express Pirate Classic. ECU basts an 8-2 overall record entering weekend play.

Senior Krista Jessup leads the team with a .429 batting average and is one of three players on the team to have hit a home run this season. Fellow senior Ashley Quick is third on the team in hitting behind Jessup and sophomore Erin St. Ledger (.346) with a .333 average and has driven a team-high six runs.

ECU hurlers have a combined ERA of 1.41 this season wtih 66 strikeouts in 67.i innings pitched. Junior Keli Harrell leads the Pirates with 43 strikeouts, while freshman Brooke Swann has yet to allow an earned run in 12 innings of work. Swann and senior Brently Bridgeforth are each 2-0 this season.
