Softball Takes On No. 1 Washington

The Pirates face defending Women’s College World Series Champion and current No. 1 Washington at 9:00 p.m. EST. During last weekend’s Pirate Classic, ECU pounded out 32 hits in 98 at-bats for a .327 batting average en route to an undefeated showing. All 12 players who recorded at-bats picked up at least one hit. Five players collected at least one multiple-hit game and five had at least one multiple-RBI game. Senior Christina Merrida led the way with six hits while tying for the team lead in runs batted in with four. This season, UW is off to a 12-1 start. On offense, junior infielder Jenn Salling leads the way with a .559 batting average while sophomore infielder Niki Williams is right behind at .500. Lawrie’s 19 runs batted in and eight home runs are tops on the team while Salling has scored a squad-best 21 runs. Lawrie is 9-0 with a 1.12 ERA and 102 strikeouts in 56 innings this season. She drove in two Friday against Delaware, tying her career high set her freshman year. Saturday against Towson, she provided ECU’s only runs in a 2-0 victory. She scored the game-winning run in the third inning and drove in the insurance tally in the fifth.
