Pirate Pitchers Post A Pair of Zeroes To Win Two Games
03/12/2004 CHARLESTON, S.C. --- Two East Carolina pitchers combined to toss a pair of shutouts and lift the Pirates to two victories on day one of the 2004 Cougar Classic at Patriots Point. ECU defeated Bowling Green, 2-0, and College of Charleston, 1-0 in eight innings.
With its two victories, East Carolina improved to 19-5-1 on the season. Maggie Lingo and Keli Harrell combined to throw a two-hit shutout against Bowling Green in the opening game. Lingo limited BGSU to two hits in 6.2 innings of work before Harrell came on to get the final out with the tying run at second base. The Pirates scored both of their runs in the fourth inning. Krista Jessup singled home the first run before Christine Sheirdan scored on a fielder's choice. After earning the save in game one, Harrell tossed a complete game shutout against College of Charleston, striking out eight. ECU scored the game's only run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth. Sheridan laced a base hit down the right field line to plate Jessup from third base. The Pirates collected eight hits in the game, including two each from Sheridan and Lacassa Hill. The Pirates continue play at the Cougar Classic against UAB Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
