BERKELEY, Calif. - The East Carolina softball team completes its spring break trip with Saturday's Cal Round Robin. The Pirates play Cal State Fullerton (3-17) at 1:00 p.m. EST and UC Davis (7- 12) at approximately 3:30 p.m. EST.

In a scheduled filled with numerous ranked opponents, the Titans have struggled out of the gate with a 3-17 mark. Cal State Fullerton has been led on offense by junior outfielder Torrie Anderson, who leads the team in batting average (.268), hits (15) and runs scored (10).
Junior Ari Cervantes (1-6, 6.30 ERA) and redshirt sophomore Krystal Heinle (1-6, 7.33 ERA) have done the majority of the pitching while two others have combined to go 1-5.
Examining The Aggies ...
UC Davis went 1-4 at last weekend’s DeMarini Invitational to fall to 7-12 this season. Senior infielder Sarah Axelson has picked up a team-best 21 hits and 12 runs scored to lead the offense. She is also tied with freshman infielder Elizabeth Santana for the squad lead in runs batted in with 10.
In the circle, junior Alex Holmes (5-3, 3.82 ERA) leads the Aggies in wins, innings pitched (60.1) and strikeouts (61).
ECU In First-Time Meetings ...
Saturday’s games against Cal State Fullerton and UC Davis will be the first in series history. Since 2006, East Carolina has gone 15-11 when facing a team for the first time. In 2009, ECU went 2-0 in initial meetings, defeating Indiana 8-3 and Georgetown 9-0.
This season, the tide has turned as the Pirates are 2-5 in such meetings. ECU has fallen to No. 3 Florida 4-3, Kansas 3-1, No. 1 Washington 6-0, Hawai’i 10-0 and Fresno State 1-0. The Pirates defeated Morehead State 6-3 at the Pirate Classic and Seattle 9-0 at the Bank of Hawai’i Invitational Tournament.
A Trip Home ...
With this week’s trip to California, six ECU players will be visiting their home state. Seniors Christina Merrida and Vanessa Moreno, juniors Sissy Jimenez and Toni Paisley, sophomore Priscilla Velasquez and freshman Cicely Lopez all call the Golden State home. Merrida and Jimenez will be the closest to their hometowns as they hail from northern California.
