GREENVILLE, N.C. - Following a 1-2 start to the Conference USA season last weekend against Memphis, East Carolina looks to get back on track as it steps out of league action for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader against Charleston Southern (11-14) Tuesday.

The Pirates Against The Buccaneers
East Carolina has dominated the series against Charleston Southern, winning all 13 meetings between the foes. The teams have not met since March 11, 2005, when East Carolina claimed a 6-5 victory. The programs played a doubleheader each year from 1995-99, a single game in 2002 and battled twice in 2005. In the all-time series, ECU has outscored Charleston Southern 102-19. In fact, the Buccaneers have only scored more than two runs in a game twice, during the first and last contests.

In the last meeting, at the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C., Leigh SaVoy and Shirley Burleson, who scored three times in the game, hit solo home runs to power the Pirates to the 6-5 win. Brently Bridgeforth earned the victory, throwing four innings and allowing five runs on seven hits. Stephanie Hayes came in for the final three innings and earned her second save of the season.

Earlier in the year, the Pirates defeated the Buccaneers 10-2 in five innings Feb. 12 at the Georgia State Invitational in Atlanta. In that contest, Alison Monce hit a pair of home runs and drove in three. Hayes went the distance in the circle, earning her first win of the campaign as she struck out three.

Career Win No. 100
Saturday in the opening game against Memphis, senior Toni Paisley earned the victory for East Carolina after throwing seven innings and allowing one run, two hits and a pair of walks while striking out 11. It was the 100th victory of Paisley’s career.

She is just the second East Carolina or Conference USA pitcher to reach the 100-win plateau. Paisley trails Jenny Parsons (1990-93/102) by two victories for the all-time program record and DePaul’s Lindsay Chouinard (2000-03/108) by eight for the C-USA mark.

Half Are Solo Shutouts
Of Paisley’s 100 career victories, 50 are solo shutouts. Paisley is already the ECU leader in career blankings and on the unofficial C-USA all-time list, she trails only Chouinard’s 56. Chouinard and Paisley are the only two league pitchers to ever record even 40 or more shutouts as the third-place pitcher is Houston’s Angel Shamblin (2005-08), who had 39 in her career.

The Streak Continues
The last 10 times freshman Kristi Oshiro has led off the ECU first inning, she has reached base via five walks, three singles and a pair of fielding errors. During the stretch, the Pirates scored four times in the first.

This season, East Carolina scores 47.6 percent of the time (10-of-21) when Oshiro reaches base to start an inning.

Wynne Continues To Reach Base
Freshman Abby Wynne has registered seven pinch hit at-bats this season and collected four hits, good for a .571 average. The Greenville native has been especially effective in her last five pinch-hit appearances, reaching base safely each time.

The string started with a bases-loaded walk against St. John’s Feb. 20. Wynne followed with a pinch-hit double at No. 9 Arizona State March 4, a single to the left side at Maryland March 9 and a single up the middle versus Memphis March 12. She reached via a fielding error by the third baseman Sunday against the Tigers.

Just Looking, Thanks
Paisley struck out six batters Sunday against Memphis, all looking. It was the second time this month Paisley had fanned six or more batters looking as she sent down a career-high tying seven looking versus Creighton March 5.
