Softball Scores At Will En Route To Two Victories

FAIRFAX, Va. --- East Carolina recorded a combined total of 30 runs and 30 hits in a pair of victories at the George Mason University Patriot Classic Friday. The Pirates scored 16 runs in five innings to beat the host Patriots in their opening game, 16-2. ECU continued its offensive onslaught against UMBC, beating the Retrievers 14-2 in its second game of the day.

Junior Kate Manuse collected four hits, including three doubles and a home run, and drove in five runs against GMU to highlight the Pirates' offensive outburst in the opening game of the day. Sophomore Christine Sheridan recorded three hits and drove in a pair of runs. Senior Dany'ele Hill went 2-for-4 with a two RBIs and one run scored. Junior college transfer Leigh Savoy came off the bench to go 2-for-3 with a solo home.

The Pirates continued to swing the bats well against UMBC in game two as they scored 14 runs on 10 hits. Junior Krista Jessup missed hitting for the cycle by a triple, but did drive in five runs, score three times and collect three hits, including a three-run home run.

Savoy stayed hot in game two as she collected a trio of hits, including her second home run of the day. Savoy drove in three runs, two of which scored on her home run. Hill also hit a two-run homer against UMBC and drove in four runs.

With its pair of wins Friday, ECU improved its record to 28-6-1 overall. The Pirates will continue play the GMU Patriot Classic on Saturday against St. Francis (NY) at 11 a.m., followed by a game against Marist at 3 p.m.
