Softball Wins GMU Patriot Classic Championship

FAIRFAX, Va. --- The East Carolina softball team defeated George Mason, 6-3, in the championship game of the GMU Patriot Classic Sunday afternoon to complete a perfect 6-0 run through the tournament.

Four Pirates earned all-tournament honors, including Kate Manuse who was named the tournament's Most Valuable player. Dany'ele Hill, Krista Jessup and Leigh Savoy joined Manuse on the all-tournament sqaud.

Junior pitcher Maggie Lingo picked up the victory in the championship game by tossing a complete game. ECU pounded out seven hits in the game, highlighted by multi-hit games from Dany'ele and Lacassa Hill.

The Pirates advanced to the title game by defeating St. Francis in the semifinals, 9-1. Brentley Bridgeforth earned the win by striking out five and yielding just three hits. Lara Brickhouse and Manuse each collected three hits. Brickhouse drove in four runs, including a pair on a two-run home run.

East Carolina returns to action Tuesday afternoon at home against UNC Wilmington.
