GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina softball team returns to league play and hosts No. 20/18 Tulsa for three games this weekend starting with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. ECU completes the series against the Golden Hurricane with an 11 a.m. contest on Sunday. The Pirates enter the weekend with an overall record of 14-22 (4-5 C-USA) and have won three-straight Conference USA games.

Scouting The Golden Hurricane
Tulsa (29-8-1, 9-0 C-USA) was the preseason pick and are the current frontrunners in the league this season ... Before coming to Greenville, Tulsa played host and lost to current No. 1/1 Oklahoma on Thursday by a 3-1 score ... Jill Barrett leads the offense for the Golden Hurricane with her .408 batting average, 53 hits, 10 doubles and 68 total bases ... Her batting average and hit total are also the most in the conference ... Caitlin Everett is batting .350 and leads the team with 34 runs scored and 18 stolen bases ... Samantha Cobb is the conference leader in RBI with 36 ... She is also leads the team with seven home runs... Lacey Middlebrook is a dual threat player and was the preseason choice for pitcher-of-the-year in the conference ... Middlebrook has a .337 batting average including 11 doubles and six home runs ... In the circle, she is an impressive 12-2 with a 1.40 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 104.2 innings thrown ... Aimee Creger, who has already captured three weekly awards from the conference this season, has been the top pitcher and leads the team with her 15 wins, 13 complete games, 112.1 innings thrown and 165 strikeouts ... She is third nationally in ERA and fifth in strikeouts per game ... Tulsa is coached by John Bargfeldt ... Bargfeldt is in his eighth season with the program and has successful captured four C-USA Championships since taking over the team ... He has an overall record of 286-151-1 in his career at Tulsa ... The Hurricane have reached the NCAA Tournament five times, including an appearance in four of the last five years ... Tulsa is one of only three Conference USA opponents that hold an edge on ECU in the all-time series ... The Golden Hurricane have captured 11 victories to the Pirates' 9 ... The Pirates split their midweek doubleheader on Wednesday with UNC Wilmington ... ECU took the first game 3-2, but fell in the night cap 5-3 in eight innings ... The first game was a thriller that saw ECU rally from a 2-0 deficit with a run in the sixth and a pair in the bottom of the seventh ... Alex Fieldhouse completed the comeback with her two-RBI single to score Meredith Mitchell and a hard-charging Jill Jelnick ... Sarah Christian earned her 11th win of the season in throwing her 11th complete game of the campaign ... ECU led in the second game 3-0 after a Kelsi Briggs two-run double in the third inning, but the Seahawks rallied to tie the game with a run in the fourth and two more in the sixth inning ... UNCW ended up scoring a pair of runs in the eighth inning to take the series split ... The loss to UNCW in the second game was only the 15th time that ECU has lost to the Seahawks in 94 career games.

The Pirates are currently 4-5 in league play for only the second time in the last 12 seasons (2004 and 2013) ... Upon completion of nine games, ECU has started Conference USA play .500 or below a total of five times since joining the league prior to the 2002 season (1-8 in 2003, 4-5 in 2004, 2-7 in 2006, 3-6 in 2012 and 4-5 in 2013).
Fieldhouse Named C-USA Hitter-Of-The-Week
Junior third baseman Alex Fieldhouse was selected as the Conference USA Hitter-of-the-Week on Monday, April 1 ... The selection is the first of Fieldhouse's career and the initial league honor for a Pirate this season ... She hit .412 (7-for-17) in the team's five games from March 27-March 30 ... She also totaled four runs scored, four doubles, nine RBI, 14 total bases, a .874 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .421 ... Five of her seven hits went for extra bases and she produced five two-out RBI on the week.
Scoreless Inning Streak
The Pirate pitching staff threw back-to-back shutout in the last two games of the UTEP series (3/29-30) and have a current 12-inning scoreless inning streak in conference play heading to this weekend ... The last time the Pirates threw consecutive shutouts was also against UTEP during the 2011 season.
Leaving Nothing To Chance
Sophomore Courtney Smith has a pair of wins on the season with both coming when she threw complete-game shutouts of the opposition (North Dakota - 3/3 and UTEP - 3/29).

Kristi Oshiro ranks among the NCAA leaders in several categories in the third release of statistics this week (3/31) ... Oshiro is fifth in triples (5.0), 13th in triples per game (0.15), 38th in toughest to strikeout (25.0), 69th in doubles per game (0.29), 87th in batting average (.400), 122nd in on-base percentage (.480) ... Need To Keep Them Scoreless in the First
Against UTEP (3/29), the Pirates picked up their first win of the season when the opponent scores in the opening inning and are now 1-13 when that happens this year ... After the comeback win against UNCW, ECU is 2-18 when its opponent crosses home first ... East Carolina is 13-2 on the season when holding opponents to two runs or less in any game and 8-4 themselves when the scoring in the first frame.
Home Sweet Home
ECU has a 8-12 record in home games this season ... Junior Kristi Oshiro has led the team with her .389 batting average (23-for-59), eight doubles and four triples ... Fellow junior Alex Fieldhouse has also stood out at home with her .356 batting average (21-for-59) with four home runs and 16 RBI ...
