ECU's Sheridan Named C-USA Softball Freshman of the Year
05/07/2003 GREENVILLE, N.C. -- East Carolina's Christine Sheridan has been named Conference USA Softball Freshman of the Year, as announced at the league's pre-tournament banquet Wednesday.
Sheridan, a native of Pasadena, Md., also earned first-team All-Conference USA honors and was named to the C-USA All-Freshman Team. Joining her on the all-freshman team is ECU catcher Krista Jessup. The awards were chosen by C-USA's nine head coaches. Sheridan led all league freshmen in batting average (.357), slugging percentage (.527), runs batted in (30), triples (3), and walks (40). The shortstop notched 14 multi-hit games, including four three-hit games. Jessup, a native of Tampa, Fla., had the fourth-best batting average (.253) on the Pirate squad and tied for the team lead in doubles with nine. Behind the plate, she threw out 16 of 44 opposing base stealers. In their first two seasons of competition in C-USA, the Pirates have now posted four first-team All C-USA selections and three C-USA All-Freshman picks.
