GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina softball team will open a five-game homestand as part of its fall season, beginning Friday, Oct. 11, against Fayetteville State at 6 p.m., at the ECU Softball Stadium. Admission to each game this weekend is free for all spectators.
"We're looking forward to being out on the field," said head coach Beth Keylon-Randolph. "One of the things we're really working on as a team is how to compete on every pitch of every game. The mental game is something we're still working very hard on, too. We have some very bright and aggressive players, but we're really pushing ourselves to get better."
Following Friday's contest, the Pirates will host a pair of doubleheaders against Coastal Carolina on Saturday, Oct. 12, and Mount Olive on Sunday, Oct. 13. Games will begin at 1 p.m., on both days.
Twelve new players will suit up for the Pirates for the 2013-14 season, while the squad brings back plenty of experience with 12 veterans - four of which started all 52 games last season in Alex Fieldhouse, Jill Jelnick, first baseman Jordan Lewis and Kristi Oshiro.
"We're going to put a lot of different looks out there and try to find the best fits for us," Keylon-Randolph said. "We're definitely going to mix it up and put in different lineups all throughout the weekend."
East Carolina will conclude its fall season next Friday, October 18 when it takes on Pitt Community College.
