GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The East Carolina softball team has been recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) for having one of the top team grade-point averages among all Division I schools, ranking 48th nationally.

"This is a huge honor," stated head coach Tracey Kee. "Our players are dedicated to being student-athletes and are determined to succeed both athletically and academically."

As a team, ECU posted a 3.139 team GPA with six student-athletes maintaining a 3.0 cumulative GPA, while earning Conference USA Academic Honor Roll recognition.

ECU had the third highest team GPA in Conference USA last season. Saint Louis topped the conference with a 3.544 average and ranked second nationally. UAB ranked 35th nationally with a 3.192 average.

University of Detroit Mercy topped NCAA Division I with a 3.591 average, while national champion Lynn topped NCAA Division II with a 3.552 mark.
