Matt Jabs begins his sixth season as a member of the Pirate coaching staff. Jabs has been a part the ECU swimming program since 1996 when he began his collegiate swimming career. Since joining the staff, Jabs has helped coach the Pirates to a pair of conference championships, working primarily with the sprint freestylers and sprint backstrokers. He has coached numerous ECU record holders, conference record holders and individual conference champions. Jabs began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant in 2000-01 and then served as a graduate assistant for the next two seasons, while pursuing a master's degree. After completing his postgraduate work, Jabs served as a part time assistant coach during the 2003-04 season before being promoted to a full time assistant coach last year. A native of Vernon, Conn., Jabs was also a four-year letterman at ECU. In his four years with the Pirates, Jabs accumulated a number of notable accomplishments. He was named team captain his senior year, earned ECU's Most Outstanding Swimmer twice (99, 00), and is ranked among the school's career top 10 in the 50, 100, and 200 freestyles. Jabs is a former school record in the 100 freestyle. |
