Jones, Perry and Pulaski Win Multi-Events In Intrasquad Meet

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- Junior Rebecca Perry was one of three Lady Pirates to record a pair of first place finishes at the annual Purple-Gold Meet, which unofficially opened the 2006-07 swimming and diving campaign at East Carolina on Thursday.
Perry touched first in both the 100-yard (52.29) and 200-yard (1:54.25) freestyle events. As a sophomore last season, she set the school record in the 50, 100, and 200-yard freestyle swims.
Fellow junior Megan Pulaski, the ECU varsity record holder in the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle, placed first in both of those events. She won the 500 free by two seconds over sophomore Meghan Brosi and the 1,000 free by 21 seconds.
Freshman Jacquelynn Jones was the third Lady Pirate to win two events. She captured the the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:12.43 and the 200-yard backstroke with a mark of 2:25.42.
Perry and Jones paced the Purple squad to a 99-96 victory over the Gold.
The Purple squad was also victorious on the men's side, posting a 98-96 win.
Old Dominion transfer Kristian Ramkvist was one of two Pirates to win dual events, capturing first place in the 200-yard IM (1:57.12) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:10.63).
Sophomore Andrew Phelps claimed first place in both of the distance free events, winning the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:51.27 and the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:59.00.
Phelps was the lone member of the Gold team to win an individual event.
Senior Bryan Yasinsac, who set the ECU varsity record in the 50-yard freestyle last season, won his record-holding event with a time of 22.17.
Other event winners included: Jason Guzewich (100 Free), Geoff Hansfield (200 Fly), Charlie McCanless (200 Free) and Greg Neville (200 Back).
ECU opens the dual meet season at noon on Oct. 14 against Davidson inside Minges Aquatic Center.
The ECU diving team opens its season Friday, Oct. 6, by hosting the ECU Diving Invitational which begins at noon.
