Pirates Use 7-3 Start To Stand No. 72 Among All Division I Programs
Kirstin Buchanan Burgess is in her first season as assistant women's tennis coach at East Carolina University after accepting the position on July 11, 2012.
Burgess, a native of Benoni, South Africa, was a four-year letterwinner for the Lady Pirates from 2003-06. She posted a career singles record of 60-48 and a doubles record of 77-31.
"It is a great opportunity to have Kirstin a part of our program again," said head coach Tom Morris at the time of the hire. "It was a wonderful experience to have her in our program as a player, and I'm elated that she will be joining our staff this year as our assistant coach. I'm very confident that with Kirstin's addition, our program will continue to improve."
Burgess ended her collegiate career with a personal-best 17 singles victories during the 2005-06 season, including an 11-5 mark against dual meet competition. Paired with Gillie Bailey, Burgess posted a 15-4 record at No. 1 doubles and helped the Lady Pirates to a program-best 19 victories that year. The tandem rose to a national standing of No. 48 in the FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings in late March - a first for an ECU doubles team in the modern era.
