Lady Pirates Blank Mountaineers 7-0
Feb. 5, 2011
GREENSBORO, N.C. - The East Carolina women's tennis squad captured all six singles matches, four in straight sets, and swept doubles play to record a 7-0 non-conference victory over Appalachian State Saturday afternoon at the Piedmont Racquet Club. The win improved ECU's overall spring dual match record to 2-0, while the Mountaineers dropped to 2-2 after falling in a match that was moved to The Triad because of inclement weather and unplayable court conditions in Greenville. The Lady Pirates opened the action by capturing the doubles point as Manon Bissat and Neena Wanko set the tone early with an 8-1 victory versus Jennifer Ansari and Amanda Cash at the No. 3 slot. Jessica Cook and Audrey LePottier followed with an 8-3 decision over Ellie Linsell and Jessica Thaggard at No. 1 before Natalie Collins and Petra Vogel closed out pairs play with an 8-5 win against Blakely Bean and Gisela Fernandez. East Carolina continued its run in singles, notching straight-set triumphs in the first four positions. Cook (6-4, 6-1 at No. 1), Vogel (7-6, 6-3 at No. 2), LePottier (6-2, 6-2 at No. 3) and Collins (6-0, 6-3 at No. 4) all cruised to victories, while Wanko outlasted Fernandez 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 5 and Yilian Zhang rallied back for a 3-6, 7-6, 6-1 win over Kim-Lea Dinh at the No. 6 spot.
