Lady Pirates Run Past Appalachian State 7-0

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's tennis squad captured all six singles matches, five in straight sets, and earned the doubles point to post a convincing 7-0 non-conference victory over Appalachian State Saturday morning at the ECU Tennis Complex. The win, which also served as the Lady Pirates' second-straight shutout, improved ECU's overall spring dual match record to 3-1. The Mountaineers dropped their season mark to 1-4 with the setback. The Lady Pirates opened the match by capturing the doubles point. Tandems Jessica Cook and Varinia Soler, along with Rocio Cabanillas and Brooke Walter, each rolled to 8-2 wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions to clinch the first tally before Natalie Collins and Tamara Sachs closed out the pairs action with an 8-3 decision against Laura Janke and Caroline Mauch. East Carolina continued its strong play in singles, notching straight-set triumphs in the first five flights. Cook (6-0, 6-1 at No. 1), Soler (6-4, 6-0 at No. 2), Collins (6-0, 6-0 at No. 3), Walter (6-0, 6-2 at No. 4) and Cabanillas (7-5, 6-3 at No. 5) all cruised to victories while Sachs outlasted Mauch 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 at the No. 6 slot. East Carolina will return to action next Saturday when it hosts another Southern Conference member, Wofford, in a match scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. EAST CAROLINA 7, APPALACHIAN STATE 0
