ECU Sweeps Women's Tennis Doubleheader

GREENSBORO/DURHAM, N.C. - The East Carolina women's tennis squad recorded a non-conference doubleheader sweep with a 7-0 and 6-1 victories over North Carolina A&T and North Carolina Central, respectively, Saturday afternoon.
The pair of wins extended the Lady Pirates' spring dual match record to 7-2 while the Aggies fell to 0-6 and Eagles dropped to 0-4.
In the opener against the North Carolina A&T, ECU clinched the doubles point after similar 8-0 shutouts by tandems Natalie Collins and Petra Vogel, and Manon Bissat and Neena Wanko before sweeping single play in straight sets by a combined score of 72-10.
In the second tilt against North Carolina Central, the Lady Pirates claimed the victory by winning five singles and all three doubles matches.
After East Carolina posted the doubles tally, Vogel (6-2, 6-0 at No. 1), Wanko (6-3, 6-1 at No. 3), Yilian Zhang (6-3, 6-1 at No. 4) and Abby Richmond (6-1, 6-3 at No. 5) each recorded straight-set triumphs to secure the win. The Eagles produced their only victory of the afternoon when Cameron Chatman rallied past Collins 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 in a No. 2 matchup.
The Lady Pirates will resume their eight-match roadswing Tuesday when they travel to Lynchburg, Va., for a meeting with Liberty. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
