Davidson Ends Lady Pirates' Win Streak, 5-2

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Davidson tallied the doubles point and added four singles wins to down visiting East Carolina, 5-2, in non-conference women's tennis action Friday evening at the Knobloch Indoor Tennis Center. The Lady Pirates had their four-match winning streak snapped and fell to 5-2 on the season. The Wildcats ended a two-match skid and improved their record to 4-3. Davidson claimed the opening point by using doubles triumphs at the No. 1 and No. 3 slots. Virginia Berry and Alison Raugh stopped Jessica Cook and Varinia Soler 8-3, while Samantha Galainena and Ali Gores produced an 8-3 win over Natalie Collins and Tamara Sachs. East Carolina halted the sweep by closing out pairs play with a 9-8 victory by Rocio Cabanillas and Brooke Walter over Michele Fanny and Molly McDevitt at No. 2. The Wildcats pushed their lead to 5-0 with consecutive two-set triumphs at the No. 1, No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions before Collins and Walter improved their singles record to a combined 13-0 this spring with a pair of wins at the No. 3 and No. 4 slots. Collins (6-0) needed three sets to dismiss Raugh 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 while Walter extended her team-best slate to 7-0 with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Gores. East Carolina will return home next Saturday to face Wingate and Limestone in a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. DAVIDSON 5, EAST CAROLINA 2
