ECU Sweeps Women's Tennis Doubleheader

GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina posted straight-set wins in all 12 singles matches and captured six straight doubles bouts while recording consecutive 7-0 non-conference victories over Wingate and Limestone in doubleheader action Saturday afternoon at the ECU Tennis Complex. The pair of triumphs improved the Lady Pirates' spring dual match record to 7-2 while the Bulldogs and Saints dropped to 4-4 and 3-2, respectively. In the opener against Wingate, ECU combined to record a 24-11 doubles ledger and a 72-12 singles mark during its shutout. Tandems Rocio Cabanillas/Brooke Walter and Natalie Collins/Tamara Sachs recorded 8-2 and 8-3 victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions to help the Lady Pirates tally the doubles point while Varinia Soler, Collins and Walter each registered straight-set 6-0, 6-0 wins at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 slots to lead East Carolina in singles play. Against Limestone in the nightcap, the Lady Pirates again rolled to a 24-11 doubles record before following with a 72-12 singles mark. Sheelah Iyengar and Soler logged an 8-0 tandem triumph over the Saints' Jen Bahrman and Bridget Knowles to spark ECU's first point. In singles play, Cabanillas produced a 6-0, 6-0 win over Bahrman at No. 5 while Soler (No. 2) and Kristin Gordon (No. 6) each captured 6-1, 6-0 victories to help head coach Tom Morris record his 399th career win.
