DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Davidson secured the doubles point and used five singles wins to capture its seventh consecutive home victory in a 6-1 non-conference triumph over East Carolina Friday afternoon at Covington Courts. The Wildcats, also winners of their last four overall matches, improved to 9-4 while the Lady Pirates dropped to 12-6 and had their two-match win streak snapped. After ECU seniors Gillie Bailey and Kirstin Buchanan ran their spring doubles record to 9-3 with an 8-5 win over the tandem of Kelsey Linville and Kim Whelan in the No. 1 matchup, Davidson took the second and third-flight events by successive 8-4 scores to tally the first point of the match. Davidson opened singles play with victories in the No. 1 and No. 2 matches as Linville defeated Anca Dumitru 6-0, 6-1 and Michele Fanney rallied past Mireia Gol 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Bailey booked East Carolina's only win by rolling past Whelan (6-1, 6-0) at the No. 3 slot but the Wildcats put the contest away by having the upper hand in the remaining three positions.
