Lady Pirates Fall To Thundering Herd, 6-1

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Behind the strength of an early doubles point and five singles victories, Marshall posted a 6-1 Conference USA women's tennis triumph over East Carolina Wednesday morning at the ECU Tennis Complex.
The Thundering Herd (9-6, 1-0) used an 8-2 win by Ellie Ball and Kara Kucin over Dana Gray and Neena Wanko in a No. 2 doubles matchup before Dominika Zaprazna and Maria Voscekova recorded an 8-5 victory at No. 1 over Danielle Terpko and Yilian Zhang to secure an early 1-0 lead.
In singles play, Marshall recorded straight-set wins at the No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 slots to account for the 6-1 final. Karlyn Timko opened the action by defeating Gray 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 before Kucin and Zaprazna netted 6-1, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-3 triumps at No. 4 and No. 1 over Zhang and Natalie Collins, respectively. In addition, Voscekova handed Renata Bakieva a 6-2, 6-3 setback in a No. 2 battle, while Ball earned a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Wanko at No. 3.
The Lady Pirates (6-11, 0-3) tallied their only point of the morning when Terpko dismissed Kristina Koprcina 7-6, 6-4 in a No. 5 meeting.
East Carolina's match against Barton, scheduled as the nightcap of Wednesday's split doubleheader, was postponed due to inclement weather. The Lady Pirates will return to action Saturday by hosting Davidson at 10 a.m.
