ECU Earns Shortened 4-0 Victory Over Davidson
March 24, 2012
GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina used three straight-set singles wins and an abbreviated doubles sweep to record a 4-0 non-conference victory over Davidson Saturday morning at the ECU Indoor Facility.
The Lady Pirates (7-11) quickly extended a 1-0 lead after doubles play by capturing three singles matches in convincing fashion. Neena Wanko and Renata Bakieva cruised to 6-0, 6-1 and 6-4, 6-1 wins over Katharine Dicconson and Nisha Crouser at the No. 3 and No. 2 positions, respectively. Yilian Zhang followed with a 6-1, 6-3 defeat of Catherine Wood at No. 4 to clinch the team triumph.
Danielle Terpko and Zhang led 1-0 in a No. 1 doubles meeting against Stephani Synn and Crouser before the Davidson (3-11) pair retired because of an injury to Synn. Bakieva and Natalie Collins then secured the tandem tally by dismissing Frizzi Bschorer and Elise Held 8-2 at the No. 3 slot.
Because the match-deciding fourth point was gained, singles matches between Collins and Brites Moniz-Soares (No. 1), Terpko and Bschorer (No. 5), and Abby Richmond and Held (No. 6) were either discontinued or not started. Inclement weather and a subsequent move to the indoor facility with scheduling limitations Saturday resulted in the shortened match.
The Lady Pirates will take a week off before traveling to Charlotte next Saturday for a meeting against the 49ers beginning at 10 a.m.
