GREENVILLE, N.C. - After dropping a 6-1 Conference USA decision to UCF on Friday morning, East Carolina rebounded to down North Carolina Central by a similar 6-1 score in the evening match at the ECU Tennis Complex.
With the split, the Pirates move to 11-7 overall while the Knights improve to 11-5 and the Eagles fell to 10-5.
In the opener, UCF rolled to the doubles point by sweeping all three sets. Melis Tanik and Yilian Zhang battled Caroline Eberhart and Courtney Griffith at No. 2 before falling 8-6, while ECU's No. 3 tandem of Dana Gray and Danielle Terpko also turned in a competitive effort during an 8-5 setback.
Tanik won her singles bout at the No. 2 position over the Knights' Jenna Doerfler in straight sets (6-3, 6-0), but she was the only Pirate to triumph as UCF captured the remaining five singles matches - dropping only two sets.
