Coastal Carolina Sinks ECU, 4-3

CONWAY, S.C. - Coastal Carolina and East Carolina split six singles matches but the Chanticleers took two of three doubles matches to capture the point and hand the Pirates a 4-3 non-conference setback Friday afternoon at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center. East Carolina falls to 12-7 on the year while the Coastal Carolina improved their dual match record to 14-4. The Chanticleers set the tone early with a pair of doubles victories. Despite an 8-6 win by Jessica Cook and Audrey LePottier over Lexi Bolesky and Miki Bunea at the No. 1 position, Coastal Carolina clinched the point by taking the No. 2 and No. 3 matchups - using an 8-4 triumph by Paty Cortes and Mary Hill over Petra Vogel and Yilian Zhang along with an 8-5 victory by Maria Camberos and Caitlyn Brooksbank over Natalie Collins and Tamara Sachs. In singles play, ECU picked up victories at the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 slots as Cook knocked off Bolesky (7-5, 7-5), Collins rolled past Kim Webb (6-2, 7-5) and LePottier handled Camberos (6-1, 6-2). Coastal Carolina used a 7-6, 2-6, 6-3 win by Bunea over Vogel at No. 2 to clinch the match after Hill defeated Abby Richmond (6-0, 6-0) at No. 6 and Cortes dispatched Zhang in straight sets (6-0, 6-2) at the No. 5 position. The Pirates will return to action Tuesday when they host Richmond at the ECU Tennis Complex in a 2:00 p.m. match.
