Lady Pirates Blanked By Undefeated South Carolina State

ORANGEBURG, S.C. - South Carolina State extended its winning streak to 16 straight by taking four of six singles matches in straight sets and sweeping doubles play during a 7-0 non-conference victory over East Carolina Friday morning at the SCSU Courts.

The Bulldogs (16-0), who have already captured the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's South Division title, clinched the doubles point by virtue of 8-3 and 8-5 victories in the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, respectively. East Carolina's tandem of Dana Gray and Neena Wanko pushed Suhaila Jad and Sabrina Mendez before suffering an 8-6 defeat in a No. 2 match.

South Carolina State continued their strong play in singles action by taking the top four matches in straight sets, dropping just 18 combined games. Juniors Danielle Terpko and Abby Richmond enjoyed the Lady Pirates' most success, forcing three sets in their respective matches at No. 5 and No. 6. After winning the opener 6-4, Terpko fell to Victoria Khatcei 6-1 and 1-0, while Richmond battled Laura Bosneag before dropping a 6-1, 0-6, 1-0 decision.

East Carolina (8-13) will host Barton in its final home match of the season Wednesday, April 11, beginning at 5 p.m.
