UNC Greensboro Edges Lady Pirates, 4-3

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Alejandra Guerra and Arielle VonStrolley's 8-3 victory over Jessica Cook and Varinia Soler in a No. 1 doubles match earned the Spartans' opening point and eventually proved to be the difference as UNC Greensboro edged East Carolina 4-3 in non-conference women's tennis action Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Pirates, who suffered their third-straight loss, fell to 10-6 on the year while the Spartans improved to 11-5. Guerra and VonStrolley clinched the first tally after Valerie Behr and Lucy Dougherty opened doubles play with an 8-0 win over Rocio Cabanillas and Brooke Walter at the No. 2 slot. ECU bounced back to prevent a sweep with an 8-5 victory by Natalie Collins and Tamara Sachs in a No. 3 meeting against Britney Cloer and Jessica Eblen. In singles play, the Lady Pirates picked up victories at the No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 positions as Soler outlasted Behr (6-1, 7-5), Walters defeated Cloer (6-4, 6-4) and Sachs cruised past Eblen (6-4, 6-3). UNCG used wins by Guerra over Cook (6-0, 6-1) at No. 1, VonStrolley over Collins (6-2, 6-4) at No. 3 and Dougherty over Cabanillas (6-0, 6-0) at No. 5 to capture the other three matches. The Lady Pirates will travel to Greensboro Friday for a split doubleheader against North Carolina A&T and North Carolina Central beginning at 10 a.m. UNC GREENSBORO 4, EAST CAROLINA 3
