Lady Pirates Cruise Past Mount Olive, 7-0

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's tennis squad swept six singles matches in straight sets and earned the doubles point to post a convincing 7-0 non-conference victory over Mount Olive late Tuesday night at the ECU Tennis Complex. The win, which also snapped a three-match losing string, improved ECU's overall spring dual match record to 11-6. Mount Olive fell to 9-8 after suffering the setback. The Lady Pirates opened the match by capturing the doubles point against the Trojans. Tandems Tamara Sachs and Brooke Walter (8-2), along with Kristin Gordon and Sheelah Iyengar (8-3), each rolled to impressive wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions to clinch the first tally before Natalie Collins and Jessica Cook closed out pairs play with an 8-6 decision against Carol Aro and Jessica Souza in a No. 1 meeting. East Carolina continued its strong effort in the singles competition, outscoring Mount Olive a combined 73-25 in all six flights. Cook (No. 1), Collins (No. 2), Walter Priest (No. 3), Sachs (No. 4), Gordon (No. 5) and Iyengar (No. 6) all recorded victories - four sets coming in 6-0 fashion. The Lady Pirates will return to action Friday when they travel to Greensboro for a split doubleheader against North Carolina A&T and North Carolina Central beginning at 10 .m.
