GREENSBORO, N.C. - The East Carolina women's tennis squad followed a doubles sweep with three straight-set singles wins to produce a weather-shortened 4-0 non-conference victory over North Carolina A&T Friday afternoon. The Lady Pirates (12-6) used 8-3 and 8-4 triumphs at the No. 1 and 2 doubles positions to claim the opening point. After Natalie Collins and Jessica Cook teamed up to dismiss Jaymee Jones and Winnie Quick at the top spot, Tamara Sachs and Brooke Walter clinched the tally by upending Azeib Nigatu and Shondra Redfern at No. 2. Collins, Walter, Sachs also turned in singles victories by a combined score of 36-8 to secure the team win. Collins dispatched Jones 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2, Walter rolled past Redfern 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 and Sachs downed Nigatu 6-1, 6-1 in a No. 3 meeting. Because the match-deciding fourth point was gained, the other three singles matches between Cook and Quick (No. 1), Kristin Gordon and Nina Henry (No. 5), and Sheelah Iyengar and Danielle McCaskill (No. 6) were discontinued. After meeting North Carolina Central late Friday, the Lady Pirates will close out their regular season schedule Saturday by hosting Barton College in a match scheduled to begin at 5 p.m before preparing for the C-USA Women's Tennis Championships April 16-19 in Houston, Texas.
