COLUMBIA, S.C. - Junior Zandy Overcash and freshman Brooke Walter captured three singles' wins each to headline a total of 18 team match victories as the East Carolina women's tennis squad officially closed out its fall schedule at the University of South Carolina's Southern Intercollegiate Tournament last weekend.

Overcash logged straight-set victories in her first two matches, starting with a 6-3, 6-3 decision over Francis Marion's Sara Moyer and a 6-1, 6-2 triumph against Kathryn Maples of Meredith College. After suffering a 6-1, 6-0 setback to Coastal Carolina's Nicole Lemmerer, she bounced back to earn a third-place finish by posting a 6-3, 6-3 win against South Carolina State's Anna Subenkova.

Walter rebounded from an opening loss to N.C. State's Julia Roach (7-5, 6-1) and picked up three consecutive wins to earn the consolation title in the A-2 Flight. After knocking off Appalachian State's Caroline Mauch (6-2, 6-4) and Charleston Southern's Lina Benkirane (6-1, 6-1), Walter completed her run with a 6-3, 7-5 triumph against Kim Weber of Coastal Carolina.

Junior Luiza Borges, junior Alex Smith and sophomore Presley Thomas picked up a pair of wins each while playing a total of four singles matches during the event.

Borges and Smith turned in ECU's strongest doubles performance, earning a runner-up standing in the C-1 Flight. The tandem opened with an 8-5 win over Sabrina Smyers/Cayley Wetzig of Wofford and got past Coastal Carolina's Maria Camberos/Sarize Coetzee (8-4) before falling 8-6 in the finals to Magda Jezovicova/Sarca Vitkova of Francis Marion. Other East Carolina doubles pairs who logged a victory include Anca Dumitru/Thomas and Overcash/Hannah Priest.
