Women's Tennis Wins Seventh Straight
02/19/2005 GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The East Carolina women's tennis team posted its seventh consecutive win Saturday with a 7-0 victory over Appalachian State at the ECU Tennis Complex Saturday. It was the Pirates' second straight 7-0 win and fourth 7-0 victory in their past five matches.
Senior Raluca Baicu and freshman Hannah Priest each recorded a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins. Baicu defeated Jill Parsons at No. 4 singles, while Priest downed Meg Dlugos at No. 6 singles. Priest won all three of her matches this past week by scores of 6-0, 6-0. The Pirates claimed all six singles matches in straight sets. Junior Kirstin Buchanan defeated Lyndsey Free at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-3. Fellow junior Gillie Bailey was also victorious at No. 2 singles with a 6-4, 6-2 over Salem Kirven as was freshman Mireia Gol at No. 3 singles over Victoria Moody 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Luiza Borges defeated Ann Pierce at No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-1. ECU (8-2) swept all three doubles matches to claim the point. Buchanan and Gol blanked the tandem of Free and Kirven at No. 1 singles, 8-0. Freshman Alex Smith teamed with Baicu to defeat Moody and Dlugos at No. 3 doubles, 8-2. The Pirates won at flight two by default as the ASU team of Pierce and Alexandra Grate couldn't finish after dropping the first set to Bailey and Borges. The Pirates will go for their eighth consecutive win Tuesday, February 22 at Davidson.
