ECU Women's Tennis Cruises By UNC Asheville
02/20/2003 Asheville, N.C. — East Carolina swept the singles matches, posting straight set victories in five of those matches, and cruised to a 6-1 victory over UNC Asheville in a women's tennis match held Wednesday at the UNC Asheville Tennis Complex. The Lady Pirates improved to 5-2 in dual match play this spring with the victory. Raluca Baicu, Paulina Sierpinski, Kristin Buchanan, Emily Kohl, and Cristina Meilicke all posted straight set victories in singles action. The Lady Pirates' only loss came at No. 1 singles, where Lyndall Jordan dropped the first set to Natasha Lucki before winning the second and third sets. Meilicke improved her singles record to 9-1 with the victory, while Buchanan and Kohl both improved to 9-3 on the year. ECU's doubles combination of Baicu/Jordan posted the Lady Pirates' only victory in doubles action, defeating Leocadie Collot/Stacey Witkowski, 8-1. The ECU men's and women's tennis teams both have matches scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 22 against Appalachian State and Campbell. The men will face Appalachian State at 10:30 a.m. at the Greenville Fitness and Tennis Center, while the Lady Pirates are slated to challenge Campbell at the ECU Tennis Complex at 1 p.m.
