Women's Tennis Swings Past Elon
03/09/2004 GREENVILLE, N.C.-- East Carolina's women's tennis team improved to 8-6 after beating Elon 4-3 on Wednesday at the ECU Tennis Complex.
The Lady Piartes have won three straight matches, while the men's team lost for just the third time this season, falling to the Phoenix, 4-3. ECU's Raluca Baicu, Kirstin Buchanan and Gillie Bailey all won their singles matches. By taking two of the three matches in doubles competition, East Carolina earned a 4-3 victory over Elon. The men's team's bright spots included ECU's Mark Gellard and Gerard Galindo both winning their matches 6-1, 6-4. The Pirates fall to 9-3 with the loss. ECU's men's and women's matches scheduled for Tuesday evening against Mount Olive were postponed due to rain moving into the Greenville area. The men and women take the courts again Wednesday, March 10 at 2 p.m. hosting Coastal Carolina.
