Men's, Women's Tennis Both Win at Coastal Carolina
03/28/2003 CONWAY, S.C. -- East Carolina's men's and women's tennis teams each posted road victories over Coastal Carolina on Friday afternoon. The ECU men defeated the Chanticleers, 5-1, while the Lady Pirates won, 4-2. Both contests were played as individual singles matches only. In the men's match, East Carolina took flights two through six, including straight set wins by Charl Meyer at two and Paulo Baumer at three. The win improved Baumer's team-best overall record to 17-5. The win evened ECU's spring record at 8-8 and was the Pirates' fifth win in their last six outings. The women's competition was closer but ECU prevailed with wins at flights two, four, five, and six. Emily Kohl's three-set victory at flight five sealed the win for the Lady Pirates, who won their sixth straight match to improve to 12-4. Cristina Meilicke posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at flight six to push her team-best singles record to 16-2. She has won six straight singles matches. Both squads continue their tour of eastern South Carolina on Saturday when they take on College of Charleston at 10 a.m.
