Women's Tennis Inks Zandy Overcash To National Letter of Intent
04/22/2004 GREENVILLE, N.C. -- East Carolina women's tennis coach Tom Morris announced that Alexandra Leigh "Zandy" Overcash has signed a national letter of intent with the Pirates for the for the 2004-05 season Thursday. Overcash, a standout player at Wakefield High School for the past four years, helped lead her team to the state 4-A quarterfinals in 2001, 2002 and 2003. She earned All-Conference and Academic All-Conference honors in three of her four years at Wakefield. Along with being an all-conference selection, she earned all-state honors as a senior, was named team co-captain, Most Outstanding player, and is a two-time team Most Valuable Player. Overcash, who plans to major in interior design at ECU, has a 3.6 GPA and has served on the Student Council and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes while at Wakefield. "We are very fortunate to have Zandy Overcash commit to our tennis program," said Morris. "She is a great student, very talented tennis player and exemplifies the type of person we want at ECU. I look forward to working with Zandy over the next four years." The Lady Pirates concluded the 2004 season with a pair of losses at the Conference USA Championships, and finished with a 10-13 overall record.
