Tanik Earns All-Conference USA Honors
April 29, 2013
IRVING, Texas - Junior Melis Tanik was named to the All-Conference USA Women's Tennis Third Team, according to an announcement by the league Monday. The London native, who prepped at Raleigh's (N.C.) Ravenscroft School, posted East Carolina's highest season singles win total since 2010 with 17 during the spring.
In all, Tanik compiled a 17-6 mark playing primarily at the No. 2 (13-5) position during her first campaign with the Pirate program after transferring from West Virginia. She closed the year winning nine of the last 11 matches, which included a 6-3, 6-4 victory over UCF's Jenna Doerfler in the C-USA Championships. Tanik also captured the only matches she played at No. 1 (1-0) and No. 4 (1-0).
She enjoyed a season-best eight-match victory streak from March 19 to April 10 and won her only regular season C-USA match on the schedule with a similar decision over Doerfler at the ECU Tennis Complex on March 29. Tanik nailed down all 17 triumphs in two sets and helped guide ECU back into the ITA polls (No. 72) for the first time since 2008 in early March.
