05/18/2004 Greenville, N.C. --- East Carolina head tennis coach Tom Morris announced that Alexandra Smith, a J.H. Rose High School player from Greenville, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Pirates beginning in the fall of 2004.
Smith, a two-time conference player of the year, led Rose to conference team titles as a sophomore, junior and senior. She compiled a 57-6 record during those three seasons at the No. 1 singles flight and finished with an overall career record of 73-8. A four-year letterman, Smith was a four-time conference singles champion and earned Team MVP and all-conference accolades each season. Currently ranked third in the state among players 18 and under by the United States Tennis Association, she helped Rose to a pair of top five finishes at the state championships the last two seasons. In addition to being an outstanding tennis player, she also excelled in the classroom. A member of the National Honor Society, a Governor's School nominee, and North Carolina Teaching Fellows Finalist, she will rank among the top 10 percent of her graduating class this spring.
