GREENVILLE, N.C. - Seven members of the East Carolina women's tennis team were honored for their accomplishments in the classroom and named to the 2014 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team.
Recognition for the Pirates spanned across all four classes, as seniors Vanessa Fuleihan and Melis Tanik, juniors Dana Gray and Karling Watson, sophomore Nicole LaDuca and freshmen Emily Groeneveld, Scarlett Walston will receive certificates from the ITA for their achivements.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA member program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale).
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
ECU finished the 2014 dual match season with a 12-11 overall record. Tanik led the team with a 21-12 record, while Gray posted a team-best 12-6 mark in dual singles matches. Groeneveld and Tanik combined to be the team's top doubles tandem, recording an 8-3 ledger out of the No. 3 spot in the lineup.
