GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina women’s tennis team will compete in its third tournament of the fall season when it hosts the ECU Invitational this Friday and Saturday, Oct. 4-5, at the River Birch Tennis Park.
Play is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., on Friday and 9 a.m., on Saturday.
Norfolk State and North Carolina Central will join the Pirates for the two-day round robin tournament. Each player is scheduled to play three singles and three doubles matches, beginning with two doubles and one singles match on Friday. Saturday will feature one doubles and two singles matches for each player.
In its last competition, Sept. 21-22 at the Charlotte Invitational, East Carolina won six of its seven doubles matches on the first day, which included a sweep of its three matchups against Charlotte, before claiming victories in five of seven singles matches against UNC Greensboro.
The second day of the tournament saw the Pirates take two of three doubles matches from UNCG, before winning four of seven singles bouts against Campbell.
Senior Melis Tanik and junior Dana Gray teamed up to record a perfect 3-0 record in doubles play over the course of the weekend, while sophomore Nicole LaDuca and freshmen Emily Groeneveld and Maria Storozheva each went 2-0 in singles action.
