Women's Tennis Splits With Campbell
10/06/2002 BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- East Carolina University's women's tennis team split 16 singles matches against Campbell University on Saturday in the Campbell Invitational.
The Lady Pirates went 8-8 in the two-team event, which was not a team-scored matchup. Saturday's scheduled doubles competition was canceled due to a combination of heat and injuries. Two ECU players -- sophomores Christina Meilicke and Aimee Wolfe -- won both of their matches on the day. Meilicke beat Campbell's Ingrid Stockinger, 6-1, 6-3, in the first round and defeated Mila Punto, 6-1, 6-0, in the second round to improve her season record to a perfect 6-0. Wolfe notched her first two collegiate wins by topping Lindsey Hughes, 6-4, 6-2, and Colen Gore, 6-3, 6-3. The Lady Pirates will finish off the fall tournament portion of their schedule Nov. 1-3 at the Southern Intercollegiate in Columbia, S.C.
