BLACKSBURG, Va. - The East Carolina track and field teams began its 2007 indoor schedule Friday night at Rector Field House, participating with nearly 30 schools in the Virginia Tech Invitational.

On the women's side, newcomer Kharya Brown qualified for the semifinals of the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.33, but fell short of the finals. Fellow newcomer Meghan Horne took home a 10th place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.60m.

In the 5000 meter run, Hayley Flynn's time of 19:13.62 was good enough for 10th place honors. The ECU women's distance medley squad finished 8th with a time of 12:59.41.

The men's team had just as much success in the first day of competition, with Adian Sanderson leading things off in the 55 meter dash. His time of 6.34 qualified him for Saturday's finals. In the 300 meter, Brandon Small's time of 33.96 was good enough for 3rd place. Matt Dennish took home 6th place honors in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:30.69.

Kris Bell qualified for the semifinals in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 7.84, but did not advance to the finals. Eric Frasure's mark of 18.75m in the weight throw event earned him 4th place honors.
