Lady Pirates Finish First Day of C-USA Indoor Championships in Ninth Place

HOUSTON, Texas - Junior Lindsey Rosales accounted for eight of East Carolina's 10.5 points with a second-place finish in the pole vault event to lead the Lady Pirates during first-day competition of the 2006 Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Bill Yeoman Field House Friday.

Rosales posted a vault of 3.50 meters to earn runner-up status behind Rice's Rachel Greff, who successfully cleared 3.96. Junior Brie Berkowitz also placed in the event, picking up 1.50 points after a seventh-place finish (3.20).

The Lady Pirates' distance medley relay team, made up of Hollie Brooks, Chante Sessoms, Aisha Bilal-Mack and Caitlin Littlefield, earned ECU's other tally by turning in an eight-place standing with a time of 12:46.57.

Other notable performances were turned in by sophomore Portia Baker, who qualified for Saturday's finals in the 400-meter dash with a preliminary clip of 57.12, and sophomore Chante Sessoms, who stood 10th in the long jump after a leap of 5.57 meters. Freshman Jaslyn Grullon established a new personal-record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.26 but did not advance to the finals.

The women's indoor championships will conclude Saturday with other finals in the shot put, high jump, triple jump, one mile run, 60-meter hurdles, 60-meter dash, 800-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 3,000-meter run and 4x400-meter relay.
