Trio Win At Duke Twilight

DURHAM, N.C. - Three Pirates took home victories Sunday in the Duke Twilight Meet, the final meet before the upcoming Conference USA Championships.
On the women's side, Amy Hart won the pole vault event with a mark of 3.75m, while Danielle Eiler won the discus throw event with a mark of 45.55m. Shalice Anderson and Ericka Charles both took home top ten finishes in the 400 meter dash, coming in 2nd (57.14) and 7th (1:01.73), respectively. Claire MacAulay came in 7th in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:47.67.In the 100 meter hurdles, Jasyln Grullon's time of 15.41 was good for 7th while Tara Bright's time of 15.61 was good for 8th. Tori Jones' time of 1:08.19 earned her 6th place in the 400 meter hurdles, while India Gonzalez came in 9th (1:11.29). The 4x400 meter relay squad came in 2nd with a time of 4:22.52. With a mark of 1.65m, Valeria Moore took home 2nd place honors in the high jump while Meghan Horne's mark of 1.60m earned her 3rd. Taylor Connor finished 5th in the event with a mark of 1.55m. Gonzalez's mark of 5.26m in the long jump was good for 7th place, while Tanisha Glover's mark of 4.93m earned her 10th. Vickie Mitchell came in 7th in the discus throw, with a mark of 35.11m. Five Pirates finished in the top ten in the hammer throw, with Charlene Grady's mark of 49.11m earning her 3rd, while Meagan Lewis' mark of 46.32 earning her 4th. Ashleigh Lee came in 7th (43.91), Kim Woodson came in 8th (42.55), and Donisha Brown was 9th (40.71).
Kevin Thompson took home 7th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.89. In the 200 meter dash, LePatrick Currie came in 10th with a time of 22.21. Ron Wright took home 8th in the 400 meter dash (48.58), while Michael Barnett came in 10th in the 800 meter run (1:58.45). A.J. Malicdem and Kris Bell placed in the top ten in the 110 meter hurdles, with Malicdem coming in 4th (14.99), and Bell in 6th (15.05). The 4x100 relay team finished 2nd with a time of 44.19 while the 4x400 relay team came in 5th with a time of 3:24.69. In the triple jump, Michael McGilvary's mark of 13.37m earned him 4th place honors. Ryan Onofrio took home 8th place honors in the shot put with a mark of 13.31m. Daniel Varela won the discus throw with a mark of 42.56, a season-best. He also took home 4th in the hammer throw with a mark of 49.24m.
The Pirates will have the weekend off before heading to El Paso, Texas next weekend to participate in the 2008 Conference USA Outdoor Championships May 16-17.
