BOONE, N.C. - East Carolina dropped to 1-2 Friday night after a 3-1 loss to host Appalachian State in the opening round of the Broyhill Inn Appalachian Classic. Pam Ferris led the Pirates in kills for the second time this season, collecting 18 kills, while Erica Wilson added 10.

Jaime Bevan also contributed offensively with nine kills while Kelley Wernert tallied seven on the night. Heidi Krug picked up 45 assists while Trish Monroe led ECU for the third straight game defensively with 24 digs. Ferris (16), Katie Jannusch (13) and Krug (12) also finished with double-digit digs. Kim Jefferson tallied one solo block and five block assists to lead the Pirates defensively at the net.

Chrissy Finch finished with 18 kills to lead the Mountaineers (3-0) while Stefanie Panzer (16) and Diana Thomas (10) also finished with double-digit kills for ASU. Lorelle Rau collected 52 assists while also leading the team defensively with two solo blocks and five block assists. Rau was also one of five Mountaineers with double-digit digs after collecting 14. Kali Rumberger finished with 15 digs to lead the team while Finch joined Rau with 14 digs.

 

 

After the Mountaineers took the first game, 31-29, the Pirates tied the match up after winning the second game 30-24. App. St. won convincingly, 30-23, in the third game before edging ECU, 33-31 in the fourth and final game to claim the victory.

ECU will play a doubleheader Saturday at the Broyhill Inn Appalachian Classic with the first match versus High Point at 10 a.m. and the second match at 5 p.m. against Tennessee Tech.
