BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- East Carolina dropped its second straight five-game match with a 3-2 loss at UAB Saturday night at Bartow Arena. Pam Ferris recorded her tenth double-double of the season, leading the team with 17 kills and 18 digs. ECU falls to 12-8 overall and 3-4 in Conference USA play while UAB improves to 12-4 on the season and 3-3 in conference play.

Erica Wilson also contributed offensively with 14 kills. Wilson led the Pirates with a .370 hitting percentage, committing just four errors on 27 attack attempts. Heidi Krug tallied 50 assists, reaching that mark for the eighth time this season. Trish Monroe and Caitlin Daly played well defensively, joining Ferris in double digits with Monroe recording 13 digs and Daly adding 12. Heidi Krug led ECU with one solo block and four block assists while Kim Jefferson also finished with four block assists. Jefferson also finished third on the team with eight kills on the night.

Four Blazers finished in double-digit kills, led by Ivana Bozic's 21. In addition to Bozic, Aleksandra Vujovic tallied 20, Isabel Oquendo collected 18 while Casey Dent added 12. Nevena Stefanov directed the UAB offense, recording 50 assists. Nicole Bowland led the UAB defense with 23 digs while Vujovic and Bozic also finished in double-digits with 16 and 10 digs respectively.

 

 

UAB won the first two games 30-24 and 30-26 before ECU rallied to win the next two, 30-22 and 30-28. The Blazers were able to hold off the Pirates in the end with a 15-7 win over ECU in game five. Oquendo was the difference in game five, picking up five kills and adding two assists to help UAB to the win.

ECU will take the mid-week off before heading out on another C-USA road trip next weekend to Houston, Texas. The Pirates will play at Rice on Friday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. before taking on Houston on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m.
