Pirates Shutout Golden Knights For The Second Time This Season

ORLANDO, Fla.- Four Pirates finished with double-figure kills led by Mignon Dubenion's 13 as East Carolina shutout UCF for the second time this season, 3-0, Friday night at UCF Arena. The Pirates improve to 15-10 overall and 6-6 in Conference USA play while the Golden Knights fall to 7-14 overall and 5-9 in conference. In addition to Dubenion's 13 kills, Pam Ferris and Kim Jefferson each recorded 11 while Kelley Wernert added 10. Ferris led ECU with 16 digs, recording her 13th double-double of the season and her third in as many matches. Libero Trish Monroe also finished with double-digit kills for the eight-consecutive match, picking up 15. Heidi Krug directed the Pirate offense with 43 assists while also adding seven digs and two service aces. Dubenion led the ECU defense at the net with six block assists while Jefferson contributed with one solo block and two block assists.
Schanell Neiderworder led the Golden Knights with 17 kills while Jana Mitchell picked up 11 and Maina Heming added 10. Leah Alexander led the offense, collecting 43 assists while adding three digs and two kills. Neiderworder tied her kill total, recording 17 digs to pick up a double-double. Katie Kohnen also finished in double-digits with 15 digs. Neiderworder and Mitchell each picked up one solo block and three block assists to lead UCF at the net.
The Pirates out-hit UCF .263-to-.223 en route to the 30-26, 30-28, 30-28 victory. ECU dominated the first game, recording 17 kills while committing just two errors on 43 attack attempts. Both teams struggled in game two with ECU claiming the two-point victory before the Pirates were able to come away with the win despite being out-hit .319-to-.238 in game three. ECU returns the court Saturday night when the team travels to Hattiesburg, Miss. to face Southern Miss at 8 p.m. |
